As our train arrives we will be treated to gorgeous panoramas of the town and surrounding scenery – a little taste of what is to come. Nestled within the peaks and folds of the Jura Mountains, the historic town of Neuchâtel provides medieval wow factor in spades. With an elegant skyline drawn by stone spires and striking turrets, the old town enjoys a privileged position on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, making it a delightful spot to explore Switzerland’s rich heritage.
As your guide escorts you through the winding streets of Old Town Neuchâtel, they will reveal the stories and secrets behind the magical period architecture which defines the area. Lap up the fairytale atmosphere as you make your way to the town’s crowning jewel: the Neuchâtel Castle. This stunning Romanesque castle was built in the 12th century, and its main tower is believed to be the oldest building in Neuchâtel.
We will explore the elegant courtyards and large internal halls, before making our way to the tower summit to enjoy the epic views across the city, Lake Neuchâtel, and the Alps.
Next, our Swiss tram will take us deep into the vine-clad hills of Neuchâtel, on the way to our exclusive Vineyard visit. The region of Neuchâtel is famed the world over for its wine, its fertile earth perfect for growing organic grapes for the production of white, red, and rose varieties.
The vineyard owners will greet us at the gate, and take us deep into the cavernous cellars where wine is produced. Here, we will learn about the history and processes which continue to inform Neuchâtel’s wine industry and gain expert insight into the lavish world of wine cultivation. Glimpse inside the giant casks used for fermentation, and discover the artisan techniques behind each individual flavor.
After our lesson we will have the chance to sample the full range of wine crafted at the vineyard, guided by a regional expert. This is a fantastic opportunity to try a variety of local specialties, grown from seed in the 16 acres of rolling vineyard.
