Engelberg Switzerland is not far from the famed Lake Lucerne nestled in a beautiful valley towering with mountains that range 1000 meters. In the Lake Lucerne region, mount Titlis (3,239 meters) adorned with its glacier and mount Hahnen (2,600 meters) tower above the surrounding mountain ranges which makes Engelberg one of the top ski destinations within Switzerland – while in the summer it’s famed for its hiking, trekking, mountaineering, climbing, biking and even golf!

Yes, Engelberg cheese is a traditional Swiss cheese that has been produced in the Engelberg Valley in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland since the 14th century. It is a hard cheese made from raw cow’s milk and is known for its nutty and slightly sweet flavor. And as for Mount Titlis and Trubsee, Mount Titlis is one of the most popular destinations in Switzerland, known for its breathtaking views, stunning glaciers, and unique attractions. While Trübsee is a small lake located in the municipality of Engelberg in Switzerland, near Mount Titlis.

Some Engelberg Cheese Facts!

The cheese was originally made by the Benedictine monks who lived in the Engelberg Abbey, a monastery founded in 1120 – the monks used the milk from their own cows to produce cheese for themselves as well as to sell to the surrounding communities.

Over time, the production of Engelberg cheese became more organized, and in 1884, the Engelberg Cheese Cooperative was founded to regulate the production and sale of the cheese. Today, this cooperative sets strict quality standards and regulates the production of the Engelberg cheese to ensure that it remains true to its traditional methods and flavors.

Even till today, Engelberg cheese is being produced via the same methods. The continue to use the raw milk their cows that graze on the lush alpine pastures of the Engelberg Valley, to which they allow the cheese to age for a minimum of four months, and often up to a year or more, to develop its distinctive flavor and texture.

In addition to the traditional Engelberg cheese, there are also several other varieties that are produced in the region e.g. Engelberger Klosterglocke, Engelberger Rahmkäse and Engelberger Kräuter. Each of these cheeses has its own unique flavor and character, they are all beloved by cheese lovers around the world for their high quality and delicious taste.

Engelberg’s Alpine Culture, Festivals and Events

Engelberg is a charming Swiss mountain village known for its beautiful alpine scenery, world-class skiing and hiking, and rich cultural heritage that is steeped in tradition and history. Notably, Engelberg has a fascinating tradition of alpine farming that has shaped many of the local customs and practices e.g., you can see local farmers leading their cows up to the alpine pastures in the spring and bringing them back down in the fall. This seasonal tradition is celebrated with festivals and parades e.g., the Alpabzug or the “Cow Procession” that celebrates the cows to which they are decorated with flowers and bells, or the “Älplerzmorge” breakfast with local farmers.

  • 30 days before the departure 50% of the total amount is to be settled
  • 7 days before the departure the remaining 50% is to be settled
  • Cancellation and refunds are based on the Cancellation Policy below

Distance Keeping

Distancing will always be kept between other groups during each tour limiting the risks as much as possible.

Temperature Checks

We ensure to check the temperature of our guides and drivers regularly before and after each tour.

Washing Hands

When possible hands should be washed in order to prevent any spread. Our guides and drivers ensure whenever it is possible to wash their hands regularly.

Minimum Risk

We ensure every place (Museums, Castles or Similar) visited is safe with minimal risk to our clients, guides and drivers. If needed, we will amend place of visit without jeopardizing your experience or cancel the tour altogether. Your health is our utmost priority.

Hand Sanitization

Hands should regularly be sanitized when washing them isn't possible. Our guides and drivers will regularly sanitize their hands and will always have a bottle of hand sanitizer on them. Upon request, we will offer a small bottle of hand sanitizer to all our clients at no extra charge.

Wearing Mask

Wearing the mask is mandatory at all times by our clients, guides and drivers during each tour. After 2 hours, all masks need to be changed. Our guides and drivers will always have extra masks at your disposal.
